From the vibrant streets of Sao Paulo to the bustling neighbourhood of the Jewellery Quarter, this fantastic independent is bringing a taste of Brazil to Brum.
Introducing Viela.

Located on Vittoria Street, Jewellery Quarter, Viela is the home of Brazilian street food in Birmingham.
Opened in 2022, with the aim of sharing Brazil’s street food culture with the residents of Birmingham, Viela is a street food cafe from the team behind the Brazilian Culture Centre CDOB who have been performing and promoting Brazilian culture in Birmingham since 2008. They have a beautiful dance and movement studio with classes of all levels, and each year they host an international Capoeira festival, welcoming practitioners from around the globe to the Jewellery Quarter.

But all of this exercise talk is making you hella hungry, right? Time to talk about the food. So, what’s on the menu at Viela? Naturally, the menu is focussed around traditional and authentic Brazilian bites, so you can expect to find everything from tapioca crepes, açaí bowls, and fresh fruit smoothies, to classics like pão de queijo and coxinha.

Viela are proud to serve authentic, vibrant food made with love. All of the dishes you’ll find on the menu are made with traditional recipes and authentic ingredients to truly bring a flavour of Brazil’s delicious street food to their customers in the JQ.

On the menu you’ll find a range of light bites, perfect for snacking, such as Pão de queijo (freshly baked cheese buns made with tapioca flour), Coxinha (a “thigh-shaped” chicken croquette), Cassava Chips, and Kibe (minced beef croquette made with bulgar wheat and seasoned with mint). If you fancy something a little more substantial you can grab one of their delicious Crepes made with tapioca starch from Cassava (a popular Brazilian street food dish). Enjoy fillings such as pulled beef and cheese, creamy chicken and matchstick potatoes, or sauteed mushrooms, courgettes and homemade tahini sauce.

Alternatively, you could go for one of their tasty sandwiches instead. Choose from Pão com linguiça (Brazilian style sausage sandwich), Sanduiche de carne louca (slow cooked pulled beef with roasted yellow and red peppers), or Pão de queijo filled with pulled beef (the same as the pulled beef, but served in one of those freshly baked cheese buns).

If you fancy something sweet, they have you covered here too – Brazilians are known for their sweet tooth! Try their delicious Bolo de côco (a moist and velvety coconut cake) or the Bolo de cenoura com chocolate (a Brazilian classic of carrot cake topped with a chocolate glaze). Or, if you just want a tatsy little sweet bite to tide you over, grab one of their Brigadeiro or beijinho – a chocolate or coconut truffle typically served at festivals and parties.

We love an Açai bowl, and there’s no better place in Brum to grab a truly delicious Açai bowl or smoothie than Viela. Known as the Amazonian super fruit, they use high grade, pure Açai pulp blended a la minute with frozen banana and brown sugar to create their nourishing and refreshing bowls packed with antioxidants. Topped with sliced banana, strawberry and homemade granola, this makes a really tasty breakfast or lunch.

On the drinks menu at Viela you’ll find all of the usual speciality coffees, as well as hot chocolate and a selection of teas, in addition to freshly squeezed juices, frozen fruit smoothies and a popular Brazilian soft drink, Guaraná Antarctica, made with guaraná seed extract.

The cafe itself is cosy and welcoming, with plenty of seating, houseplants and industrial touches, and they have a beautiful little garden courtyard, perfect for soaking up some sunshine in the warmer months.
If you fancy a slice of Brazilian street food, or you’re just looking for another cute coffee shop to add to your rotation, make sure to stop by Viela.
