Some food trends come and go, but it would seem that our love affair with Japanese cuisine is here to stay.

Ramen, in particular doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon, with more and more places offering delicious bowl food popping up all the time. But when that ramen craving strikes, we know just where to go.

Introducing Maneki Ramen.

Located on Ludgate Hill (just off Saint Paul’s Square), Maneki Ramen, is your one-stop ramen shop when only the best bowl of noodles will do.

Having started out with a successful restaurant in Worcester, Maneki Ramen opened up their Birmingham restaurant in 2024 to much acclaim, quickly becoming one of the most popular ramen spots in the city. Thanks to chef Pete’s experience working in Tokyo, the Japanese dishes are a mix of authentic and original, with big bold flavours that will have you coming back again and again for another bowl.

This Tokyo-inspired ramen shop, naturally serves ramen (well duh), but they also serve other Japanese-influenced dishes too. Serving modern interpretations of Japanese noodle bowls and snacks, their menu is packed full of flavourful, satisfying dishes that will delight you with every mouthful. Expect bold broths, juicy rice lager, crispy Katsu and more – the kind of food that has you slurping away and sighing in satisfaction.

On their menu they have a range of snacks and small plates (think Japanese fried chicken, wings, dumplings, rice crackers, kimchi and more), and some large plates such as Katsu curry (chicken or tofu) and Yaki Soba (duck or tofu), as well as their main offering of ramen. Choose from a selection of different ramen flavours, made with different broths and meats/proteins and then customise to your liking by adding extra toppings if you like, and the option to make any bowl spicy if you’re craving some heat. They also offer the option of a smaller bowl for kids (or adults with small appetites). Whichever option you choose you’re in for a delicious, flavourful meal.

They offer desserts too, for those with a sweet tooth so look out for Japanese-inspired sweet options like matcha cheesecakes, dark chocolate mousse or miso custard caramel tart. Made with just as much love and packed with just as much flavour as the mains, this is the perfect way to end your meal.

Drinks-wise, they have everything you could possibly want from soft drinks to cocktails, beers and wines, teas and of course sake. Whether you’re sipping a delicious Japanese-inspired cocktail or a comforting tea, there’s something for everyone.

The interior of the restaurant is a fusion of Tokyo street style and Jewellery Quarter heritage, with clean lines and minimal décor giving a chic but laid-back feel to the space. Whether you’re perched around the chef’s counter watching the magic happen or cosied up in a corner with your favourite person, you’ll feel equally at home and relaxed in this beautiful, welcoming space.

If you’re yet to visit, then make sure to stop by (they take bookings but always have walk-in space available too) and cosy up with a steaming bowl of ramen – you might just discover your new comfort food space.
