Good things come to those who wait.

And the same can be said of Ramen. It’s a process, one where true depth of flavour is achieved only through time, love, and devotion. Over recent years, Ramen has gained in popularity in Birmingham and we’re here to tell you about one of the best in the biz in Brum.

Introducing Ramen Don.

Located on Regency Wharf, just off Broad Street, Ramen Don is the comforting ramen spot where you can enjoy some of the best ramen in Brum.

Ramen is still having a big moment, and with plenty of loyal fans this is a foodie trend that won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, ramen, despite having a big boom in popularity a few short years ago, is less of a trend and more of a way of life. There, we said it. If you’ve yet to get your ramen on, make sure you head to Ramen Don!

This delightful little ramen restaurant is all about bringing a taste of Japan’s famous noodle and broth dish to the streets of Brum, and it is well worth a visit. At Ramen Don they like to embrace the beauty of the imperfect and follow a journey of continuous refinement with each dish. The menu is simple, featuring Ramen and Donburi (think chashu pork belly, chashu lamb, sweet soy chicken, miso pork, spicy miso and toasted sesame tare, and more) and will change as time goes on, sometimes replacing a dish or simply fine-tuning their recipes as they go.

Whilst they do have a menu you can select from, just like the Pirate’s Code they’re more like guidelines. Each dish can be interchanged and tailored to your tastes, with the menu acting as a guide to the preferred tastes. For example, the ramen mixtures can be swapped in and out, so you could have the soy sauce with veggie broth and change the toppings to suit you. Just ask the friendly staff if you wish to make a special request. At the weekends the specials will change, so make sure to ask the ramen bar chefs what’s available on the day.

In addition to heart-warming bowls of the good stuff, Ramen Don also offers a menu of Japanese small plates (think gyoza, bao with various tasty fillings, karaage served with kewpie mayo, charred edamame beans), alongside Japanese curries, all of which are the perfect compliment to your meal.

Inspired by the Japanese concepts of Wabi-Sabi (a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection) and Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with urushi lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum) the ethos of the restaurant is all about resilience. With the team having spent time researching and training in Japan, as well as the head chef training his own team from the ground up, you’ll be in safe hands.

The space itself is warm and inviting, offering not only delicious food, but also an experience enriched with genuine service. At Ramen Don they invite their customers to appreciate the beauty of simplicity and the ever evolving craft of their dishes. The interior is minimal but cosy, with Japanese influences to the décor. With wooden counters and bar seating, and dark walls, this is a cosy place to enjoy a bowl full of comfort food.

The restaurant is still in its infancy, and whilst they’re in the process of getting a bookings system up and running, in the meantime you can request to book through their Instagram page.
