If you enjoy the delights of Mexican cuisine and you like to dine in a beautiful space, then we have just the place for you…
Introducing The Mayan.
Located in The Mailbox, The Mayan is the upmarket Mexican restaurant serving tasty eats in a swanky setting.
The Mayan is the restaurant where ancient Mayan flavours meet modern Mexican cuisine, bringing you a delicious taste of South America. Alongside their delicious food they specialise in Mezcal, and here you can enjoy some of the finest Mezcal around. Paying homage to the rich heritage of the Mayan civilisation, this fantastic restaurant offers a vibrant menu blending traditional ingredients with modern culinary techniques.
The menu at The Mayan draws on inspiration from across Mexico, showcasing a diverse range of flavours that define Mexican cuisine. From the hot, fiery spices of the Yucatan Peninsula to the exotic fruits and aromatic herbs, each dish tells a story and is sure to tantalise your tastebuds. With the full menu available in the evening, and a more condensed version available at lunch, The Mayan also serve a Mexican bottomless brunch. This brunch is a great alternative to the classic bottomless offerings and with different ‘tiers’ available (depending on how much food you want to eat and which drinks you’d like to choose from) is a great way to celebrate with pals.
The main food menu at The Mayan is full of mouth-watering Mexican flavours and authentic dishes reimagined. From delicious appetisers and starters (think guac and chips, frijoles, empanadas and more) to tasty tacos and fresh, zingy ceviche there are so many exciting ways to start off your dining experience. For the main event you can enjoy delicious meats from the grill (including premium cuts of British beef, lamb and chicken) elevated with vibrant Mexican spices and salsas, or choose one of their traditional Mexican recipes reinvented for the modern palate (think Carnitas, Barbacoa Lamb Shank, Pollo Con Mole and more).
For the sweet-toothed amongst you, The Mayan have a tantalising array of exquisite desserts to choose from to perfectly round off your experience. From the classic Churros to a refreshing Ensalada De Frutas or the decadent Choco Pinata, there’s something for everyone. If you’re too full for a dessert, try one of their Mayan Hot Chocolates instead – a traditional spicy hot chocolate made with milk, cinnamon and chilli.
In keeping with their Mexican theme, the drinks list features a wide range of authentic drinks, including many originating from Mexico. On the drinks list are a vast selection of fine wines, craft beers and premium spirits, alongside whisky from Oaxaca, rum from Puebla, gin from The Yucatan and a diverse selection of Tequila and Mezcal. For cocktail lovers, there’s also a list of handcrafted cocktails carefully designed to compliment the ambience and the dishes at The Mayan. These spectacular cocktails are designed to ignite all of the senses from the visual appearance to the scent and, of course, the taste. For those who prefer non-alocholic drinks, there’s an equally impressive list of carefully curated non-alcoholic cocktails that are just as delicious as their boozy counterparts too.
The interior at The Mayan is up-market and super swanky, with highly decadent touches to the décor making this a beautiful setting for a delicious meal. The focal point of the restaurant is a spectacular tree in the centre of the venue – reflecting the Mayan Ceiba Tree (a mythical tree in the centre of the universe connecting the underworld and human realms with the gods). The luxe seating features dark velvet chairs and bar stools with gold accented tables and a stunning bar with an impressive back-bar showcasing the wide range of mezcals on offer (quite possibly the largest collection in Brum, we hear). This is a truly spectacular venue for a special occasion or just a delightful mid-week date night or catch up. Whatever the occasion, delicious modern Mexican food and fancy cocktails are always a good idea.
