We have something important to taco ’bout!

Sorry, these jokes just write themselves sometimes. But joking aside, you’re going to want to read on to find out all about this place where you can enjoy Mexican food cooked from the soul.

Introducing El Azteca.

Found on the top floor of the brilliant JQ-based pub, 1000 Trades, El Azteca is the foodie kitchen offering you an authentic plate of Mexican food.

We’re spoilt for choice here in Brum with different cuisines to try, and it’s one of the things we love most about this glorious melting pot of a city we call home. You can truly find almost every cuisine represented here, and one of our absolute favourites is Mexican. That’s why we just have to share this place with you all, because we know you’ll love it too!

El Azteca offers the chance to sample some truly authentic Mexican dishes, cooked using family recipes and traditional ingredients, imparting maximum flavour with every bite. If you love tacos in all shapes, forms and flavours, then this is the place for you. On the menu, you’ll find a range of classic tacos all cooked to perfection and packed full of flavour from Carnitas to Pastor, as well as grilled chicken, grilled vegetables and more.

It’s not just tacos you’ll find on the menu though, there are lots of other mouth-watering dishes to try. You can enjoy everything from quesadillas to enchiladas and burritos – all with your choice of filling. Other delicious options include: prawn tostadas, mango prawns (served with rice, guacamole and salad) and chicken tacos dorados (marinated grilled chicken in a crispy fried corn tortilla served with homemade salsa and served with a choice of rice, beans or salad).

If you’re feeling hungry, grab the Pollo Azteca Platter (serves 2 – 4 depending on hunger level) and tuck into a whole grain fed chicken marinated for 6 hours before being cooked low and slow in chef Jose’s special red adobo sauce, served with tasty rice, pickled vegetables and chef Jose’s homemade corn tortillas and salsa. For just £38 that’s a lot of delicious food! Make sure you keep an eye out for regular specials too – as they are just that, very special. And of course, there’s always room for something sweet after – with an ever evolving dessert option to round out the meal nicely.

Naturally, on the drinks menu there’s plenty of tequila and mezcal! We highly recommend you grab yourself a margarita to add to the overall experience – tacos and margaritas is after all an exquisite combo. If tequila isn’t your thing, don’t worry there are plenty of other drinks available too.

The space itself is a mix of cosy and rustic, with exposed brick walls and original windows giving that classic JQ industrial vibe, but with soft furnishings and plush cushions keeping you comfy. Bright colours give a little nod to the vibrant Mexico streets, and the smattering of houseplants add a homely touch. But the focus here really is on the food, and that’s what will keep you coming back again, and again, and again.

If you’re yet to visit this fantastic Mexican restaurant, tucked away above a classic JQ pub, then make sure to add them next on your ‘to visit’ list.
